Chapter 10: The Neek is a Wizard

Our one month anniversary came and went, and before we knew it, it was Halloween!

Actual Halloween was on Thursday, and I worked, but both Christy and I surprisingly had Friday night free from work!

So, what to do, what to do…. Christy convinced me to go dancing!

Following our now standard tradition, we incorporated 2 “firsts” into my “List of Firsts” that night!

1. Sweet by Miss Holly

That’s right, following our tasty Panda Express dinner (one of my favorites), Christy and I headed across the street to Sweet, a delicious little cupcake store infamous for it’s sweet cupcakes. Let me tel you… yum. It’s all about the coconut for me, though Christy can’t get enough of the “Black and Gold” or “Chocolate Mousse.”

2. Swing Dancing

One of UCF’s clubs, the Swing Knights, hosts a weekly swing dance at a nearby location for $5, or $6 if you want to attend a 30 minute lesson beforehand. We definitely did the lesson. Christy has been here loads of times, but seeing as it was a first for me, I need some instruction! Being Halloween weekend, the dance was, of course, Halloween themed, with a costume contest! I donned my robe and wand for a while and my dear sweet Christy spent the night as a zombie.

In case you are wondering, I did NOT participate in the costume contest! No thank you! There were some great ones though, and several Doctors + companions made appearances much to Christy’s great delight.

Two new firsts! Woohoo!!!

To celebrate, we of course topped off our now hungrier stomachs at Lazy Moon where one pizza slice is larger than your head!… and tasty!

I now gift you with this lovely photo of Wizard Thomas, perhaps slightly blurred, enjoying delicious Sweet cupcakes before my first Swing Dance. Enjoy.

Critic Corner – Hamburger Mary’s

Hello, lovely readers! Critic Christy here and ready for a review!

This past New Years Eve, Thomas and I were delighted to try out the fairly well-known Hamburger Mary’s of downtown Orlando! What are they known for? Burgers and a show!

Let’s go with the food first… I am going to be completely honest with you, and admit that neither Thomas nor I actually ate their famously delicious burgers – I know, I know, that probably makes us the WORST critics ever, right?? Thomas had the Chicken Caesar Salad, which he said was excellent. I had the pot roast which was alright, but nothing special.  Next time we’ll have burgers!!! Also, I had their “Strawberry-tease-me” Martini, but with lemonade instead of sprite…AND IT WAS AMAZING! I might drool on my keyboard just thinking about it. (It was quite tasty! -T)

So on to the show…its a Drag Show, and it was tons of fun! There were 4 performing ladies and they did a really amazing job! Thomas even got to tip them!

For New Years, they passed out champagne and we counted down to 2014! A lot of fun!

Critic Corner – Mini Golf – Hollywood Drive-In Golf #1

Why hello there! Critic Thomas here!  I would like to start off this review/critique portion of the blog by doing one on the Hollywood Drive-In Golf located in CityWalk underneath the walkways to Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure.  Hollywood Drive-In Golf is actually 2 separate 18 hole mini golf courses: Invaders from Planet Putt and The Haunting of Ghostly Greens.  There is the option to play 18 or all 36 holes.  This time I shall be going over the Invaders side.

Invaders from Planet Putt

Putt

The Hollywood Drive-In Golf is a newer mini golf facility built around March 2012.  It was developed by Adventure Golf Design & Development Inc. and is the only one of its kind as far as the internet (Google) knows.  Planet putt is a fairly easy course with par achievable most of the time

The Good:  The course has a lot of props and is fairly well lit at night. OOH! Also, on the second hole (I think it’s the second?), there are two hole options…aim for the one on the left as both Christy and I have gotten a hole in one!  The only hole that might give you trouble is the final one, especially if you need to get it in two to make par… no bitter feelings here AT ALL!  There is also a scavenger hunt with multiple  versions depending on which one you get.  (We have had different hunts for the Haunting side so I assume there are different ones for Planet.)

The Bad:  Sometimes there can possibly be drunk people from CityWalk playing before you and have no idea what they are doing. Also, since it is located in CityWalk the only place to park is in the Universal Parking Garages, and unless you have an annual pass, could be one heck of a pricy round of mini golf.

Ratings!

I very much like the Invaders side and would rate it 9/10.  -T

Christy’s rating: 9/10
